Dr. Orellana obtained a Biochemistry degree from Universidad de Cncepción in 1986 and a PhD from P. Universidad Católica de Chile in 1992. He carried out postdoctoral research at University of Massachusetts Medical Center in Worcester, Mass. He is a Full Professor at Universidad Andrés Bello and leads the Center for Plant Biotechnology. He is currently Vice Chancellor for Research at UNAB. He has worked on the synthesis of polysaccharides in plants, the unfolded response and on genomics and proteomics of fruit species important for the Chilean economy. At the CGR, he has been involved in studying the genomics and transcriptomics of a flowering desert plant, Cystanthe longiscapa.
